How Much Does a Professional Logo Cost? Market Prices and What You Should Receive

Generator, platform, freelancer or agency: what a professional logo costs in France and Algeria, the files and variations to insist on, and the question of usage rights.

How much does a professional logo cost? From nothing with an online generator to several thousand euros at a design agency. Price alone says little: what matters is the thinking behind it, the files delivered and the rights you receive. Here is how to find your way, in France and in Algeria.

Professional logo cost: market price ranges

  • Online generators and AI tools: free or a few dozen euros. Fast, but the result often looks like thousands of others.
  • Micro-service platforms: from a few euros to around €150. Quality varies widely and the files delivered are often incomplete.
  • Freelance designer: in France, generally €150 to €1,000 excl. VAT; in Algeria, from a few thousand to several tens of thousands of dinars.
  • Design agency: from €1,500 to over €10,000, usually for a complete visual identity rather than a logo alone.

These amounts are orders of magnitude seen on the market; they vary with the designer’s experience and the scope of the work.

Why prices vary so much

A €20 logo and a €2,000 logo are not the same job. The price depends on the time spent understanding your business and competitors, the number of concepts presented, the rounds of revisions, the variations delivered and, for agencies, the brand guidelines that come with the logo: colours, typefaces and usage rules. For a small business, a tradesperson or a start-up, a solid, well-adapted logo is more than enough; the full identity can come later.

The files and variations you should receive

This is what separates a professional logo from a simple picture. On delivery, insist on:

  • Vector files (SVG, PDF, possibly AI or EPS): they scale without loss, from business card to shop sign.
  • PNG images with a transparent background for the website and social media.
  • Several versions: colour, black, and white for dark backgrounds.
  • Variations: horizontal version, compact version or icon only, useful for the site icon (favicon) and profile pictures.
  • Colour codes (HEX for the web, CMYK for print) and the names of the typefaces used.

A logo delivered as a single JPG file is an unfinished logo: sooner or later you will pay to have it redrawn.

Usage rights: the point people forget

A logo is a creative work protected by copyright. To use it freely, you need a written assignment of rights specifying the permitted uses. Check it before you pay. Registering a trademark is a separate step that protects your name and logo against competitors: it is done with INPI in France and INAPI in Algeria, which can tell you about the conditions and fees. Also run a prior-art search to avoid choosing a logo too close to an existing brand.

The pitfalls of cheap logos

  • Templates resold to several clients, or even copied designs.
  • AI-generated logos whose originality and legal status are uncertain.
  • Overly detailed drawings that become unreadable at small sizes on a phone.
  • Source files withheld or charged as an extra.
