How much does an e-commerce website cost in 2026? Between a subscription at a few dozen euros a month and a custom platform at tens of thousands of euros, the gap is huge. The right budget depends on your catalogue, payment methods, logistics and how much you plan to do yourself. Here are the market’s orders of magnitude and, above all, the cost items not to forget.
E-commerce website cost in France: the main price ranges
- Subscription platforms (Shopify, Wix…): roughly €30 to €300 a month, plus commissions or transaction fees and paid apps. Quick to launch, but you remain a tenant.
- Freelancer on WooCommerce or PrestaShop: often between €1,500 and €6,000 excl. VAT for a complete store.
- Agency: generally €5,000 to €30,000 excl. VAT, depending on design, integrations and support.
- Custom development (marketplace, product configurator, deep integration with business software): above €30,000.
What about Algeria?
Prices there are more scattered. Offers based on a ready-made template start at around 80,000 to 150,000 DZD; a complete store built by a professional often costs between 150,000 and 500,000 DZD, and custom projects more. These ranges are indicative: compare above all what is delivered, especially cash on delivery, shipping rates by wilaya and connections to delivery companies.
The cost items of an online store
- Design: home page, product pages, cart, checkout, mobile versions.
- The catalogue: product import, variations, photos, descriptions. Often the most underestimated item.
- Payment: bank card, PayPal, cash on delivery, and in Algeria CIB or Edahabia depending on your bank.
- Shipping: zones, rates, carriers, labels and tracking.
- Legal pages: terms of sale, legal notice, privacy policy.
- Basic SEO and speed, essential to be found.
- Training so you can manage products, orders and promotions yourself.
Recurring costs to plan for
- The domain name and hosting more robust than for a business website.
- Payment fees, charged on every transaction.
- Annual licences for some extensions or modules.
- Updates and security, as a subscription or one-off interventions.
- Marketing: a store without visitors does not sell, and this budget often exceeds the cost of the site.
The pitfalls that blow the budget
- An unprepared catalogue: without a clean spreadsheet and photos, the project stalls or data entry is billed on top.
- Paid modules discovered along the way: ask for the list of planned extensions and their annual cost.
- “Just in case” features: a loyalty programme, a comparison tool or multiple languages can wait for the first sales.
- A store you cannot move: make sure you own the domain, the hosting and all access credentials.
- A mandatory subscription that, over three years, costs more than building the store.
